How to clean your car interior: matte plastics, not greasy
A shiny, sticky dashboard, reflections in the windscreen, dust that comes straight back: here is the right order and the mistakes to avoid for a truly clean cabin.
A clean cabin is not a dashboard shining like a mirror. Quite the opposite: plastics “polished” with greasy products attract dust, stay sticky and create reflections in the windscreen that are annoying when driving. The goal is a clean, natural, matte look, like a new car.
1. Empty and vacuum first
Remove mats and loose items, then vacuum everything from top to bottom: headliner, seats, dashboard, carpet last. Use a brush nozzle for gaps. If you clean the plastics first and vacuum afterwards, the dust settles back on your work.
2. Plastics and dashboard: product on the cloth, not the surface
Spray the cleaner onto a microfiber cloth, not directly on the dashboard: you avoid overspray on the windscreen, screens, buttons and electronics. Wipe, then immediately follow with a second dry cloth to remove any residue.
- For very dirty areas (storage bins, handles, steering wheel) let it dwell a few seconds and agitate with a soft brush.
- Avoid “high-shine” silicone products on the dashboard: they reflect onto the glass.
3. Vents, seams and details
A soft brush (even a make-up brush) is perfect for air vents, seams and around buttons. Brush and vacuum at the same time.
4. Screens and displays
Only a clean microfiber cloth, dry or lightly dampened with water. No harsh cleaners: many screens have a delicate anti-glare coating.
5. Inside glass last
Do the glass at the end, so you also remove any splashes from earlier steps. Use two cloths: one to clean, one dry to buff. Wipe the inside of the windscreen horizontally and the outside vertically: if a streak remains, you instantly know which side it is on.
How often? A quick dust and wipe every 2–3 weeks, a full clean every 2–3 months. Little and often, and dirt never builds up.
For the cabin we are preparing MIRASIC INTERIOR (matte finish, no oily residue) and MIRASIC GLASS (streak-free glass), together in the MIRASIC CABIN KIT. Leave your email on the product page to hear when they are available.
